In May of 2003, Wishing Well nfp was incorporated with the intent to provide services for individuals with developmental disabilities who have needs that are not being met by other organizations. Most young people with developmental disabilities have worked hard during their school years in special education to master skills they will need throughout their lives. It is our intention to give them the tools and assistance necessary so they can continue to learn past the age of 21, when they are no longer educated by the public school system. We believe these young adults can be valuable members of their communities if given the opportunity. Our goal is to work with each participant in ways that are interesting and meaningful to them, in order to help them progress and achieve as much independence as possible.
In October of 2006 we opened the doors to our new Day Training Program, located at 9610 W. Manhattan Monee Road in Frankfort. Our program runs Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., and provides a stimilating Continuing Education Program geared toward the needs of each individual participant. Some of our activities include cooking, laundry, working on daily living skills, exercise, therapeutic stretching, computer skills, gross and fine motor activities and community outings.
In spring of 2007 our Horticultural Therapy Program began, providing many new opportunities for our participants. We grow plants, flowers, fruits and vegetables some of which will be sold at our farm stand. This process enables participants to experience the entire process of growing from the first seeds to final consumption of our products.
In 2009 we will also be opening our Drop In Center, available to adults with special needs and special education students. This program will provide a great opportunity for individuals who are still in school to get familiar with our facility and begin the transition process from school to adult services. This program is located at the same facility in Frankfort, Monday through Friday afternoons. Let us help provide some fun social activities for your loved one.
Another important part of our program is community service. We have baked for people in nursing homes and do laundry for some individuals in the community. We are always looking for other individuals and organizations that might benefit from our assistance. If you have something you feel we could help with, please give us a call to discuss your needs.
Wishing Well nfp is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of adults with developmental disabilities. If you know someone who might benefit from our programs please have them give us a call. As you will see when you visit our facility, we are providing a high quality program with experienced and caring staff. If you would like more information about our program we would be happy to meet with you at your convenience.
